If this is your first time hearing of Reneé Rapp, allow me to introduce her to you. From North Carolina, the singer and actress made her Broadway debut in 2019, as the iconic, Regina George, in the Mean Girls musical.

Later on, in 2021, she made her television debut as Leighton Murray on Max’s hit series, The Sex Lives of College Girls.

But in 2022, Reneé Rapp made her debut as an artist when she dropped her very first single, Tattoos, a heart-crushing number about the emotional pitfalls you have with yourself that come with being in a relationship. She has been cultivating a fan base since she made it to Broadway, and they have continued to support her through her career, as well as amass new fans; Rapp recently released her highly anticipated debut album, Snow Angel, in August of 2023.

So how does the salad restaurant Sweetgreen come into play? Well, Reneé Rapp is 23, meaning she is a member of Gen-Z. And she, like many people in Gen-Z, overshare on the internet. While that is an overpowering theme in Reneé’s music, it also is a theme in her social media. Reneé has been very public about her love for Sweetgreen.

On June 15, 2022, Reneé posted a video on Tiktok while she was crying from a tiring day of work, and shared what was in her salad that she got from Sweetgreen.

This casual post caused alarm in the comments, as people were concerned for her. (add screenshot) But Rapp joked by commenting herself “it’s okay to laugh.”, basically explaining that she was having fun laughing at her stress, a very common attitude Gen-Z has.

This leads us to Renee’s Sweetgreen debut, the Reneé Rapp Bowl.

Released on September 13th, this is Reneé’s first brand collaboration, and she fought to have Sweetgreen be the one. Sweetgreen’s branding does a fantastic job of nodding to her music and persona on their social media, most notably Instagram.

7 main feed posts and a story highlight dive into Reneé’s bowl and the aptly called “Meet-and-Green Sweepstakes” for her upcoming tour! This includes an opportunity for her fans to win tickets as well as a meet and greet with the artist at two different tour stops. When the bowl was released, she had a show for 50 of her fans at her local Sweetgreen, being able to share her love of her meal with her fans.

This collaboration has been an immense hit so far. Her fans love the creativity that the marketing team has presented, as well as poking fun at the infamous TikTok Reneé posted in the past. Some comments even asked for a Reneé ‘Wrap’, because of the artist’s last name, Rapp.

Nowadays, consumers are very aware of marketing and advertisements, and do everything they can to get away from them. Advertisements are generally criticized for being cringy or annoying, so when the comments are congratulatory and complimentary, you know that the public thinks you did a great job. Using an artist who has a genuine interest in the product is an incredible way to help market both the product and the artist.

For Rapp, she can get her name into the eyes of people who may have never heard of her before. For Sweetgreen, Reneé’s fans have a vested interest in spending money at their store because they can buy her bowl. A classic win-win solution. Although this is not Sweetgreen’s first collaboration, it is showing up to become a memorable one. Consumers are already making their own videos on TikTok, reviewing the Reneé Rapp bowl, as well as creating videos on why the artistic direction of this campaign is so attractive.
